There were many reasons why the Catholic Church weakened during the Middle Ages. The Catholic Church had many conflicts with the Pope and the people during that time. These conflicts the Catholic Church had made them weak during the Middle Ages.

One of the ways that the Catholic Church weakened was because of taxes. People did not like to pay taxes to the Church. Another reason was because the Church had two Popes. Since they had two Popes, it made the people confused because they did not know which Pope to follow orders from which made the Catholic Church weaken during the Middle Ages. They also moved the Catholic government from Rome to France, which made the people very angry with the Catholic Church, which made the church, weak. Another reason the Catholic Church weakened was because the people did not like the way the Church was spending the tax money. The Catholic Church was spending the tax money on art and pleasure and the people didn’t think that it was right. The people thought that the tax money should be spent on something more important rather then art and pleasure.

Those were some of the ways why the Catholic Church weakened during the Middle Ages. Basically the only reason the Catholic Church weakened was because of conflicts. If they did not have any conflicts, the Catholic Church would have grew stronger rather than weaken. Conflicts are usually what make a society weaken.

Great Schism PREIOD.3

The church had many conflicts; the biggest conflict was The Great Schism. It was the biggest and most impacting of all conflicts. The people in already had a Pope in Italy, but the king had chosen a new Pope for the people.
The Catholic Church had many conflicts with the king. The king elected a new Pope in France, but there was still a Pope in Italy. The Popes had banned anyone who followed the other Pope. After this many people did not know who to follow and turn for help. This started the Great Schism or a conflict between the churches and the king. During the Great Schism the people had complained about indulgences this meant they had you pay so the church can forgive their sins. When this came along so did Martin Luther causing a great uproar with the way people had thought about the churches ideas and customs. The church used this money and tax money for materialist things like paintings. After the people had not liked the way the church was. The people had almost rebelled.

In conclusion the church had lost the respect of many people. As this happened the king was gaining more power as the idea of states came along and the king had more power over the churches land. This was also affected by Martin Luther’s Ninety-Five theses. The people had come to agree with his theses. The king had kicked out both popes and had the people elect a new pope to end The Great Schism.

What Happen to the Power of the Catholic Church?

Imagine yourself in situation of being split apart of your religion, questioning your beliefs in your religion, going against whatever you believe in. It seems that that was the case during years of 1378-1417 in Europe. Its major destructor was itself. The power of being very powerful was the provoking them to do such things. Conflicts of power, selling indulgences, the way of the Catholic Church paying taxes, and wanting more of it. The Catholic Church wanted power not the passion of teaching and the purpose of of the passion of teaching religion.

One of The major provoking the fall of the Catholic Church was the Great Schism. The Great Schism was the competing of the authority of being pope and having power. In 1378, two centers, Avignon, and Rome developed and selected a new pope. Each pope demanded authority from the people and the people would be confused because when the popes demanded something very different thing from each other. People questioned and wanted a professional decision from both. People doubting the Catholic Church was a big conflict too.

These factors contribute to the Great Schism. The Great Schism was brought to an end when the all influential holy Roman Emperor brought it to an end making the popes elected a new pope. Bring all your enemies to forgiveness, the bible, is the straight contradiction of what the Catholic Church is all about.

Taxes were also a big problem in the fall of the Catholic Church. The people were disappointed because the taxes were being paid by the nobles and the Catholic Church didn’t have to paid taxes though. The church owned many land and used excess money for their personal pleasure. People doubted them about how the Catholic Church used their money and not using for the expectations of nobles. THe medieval church had a huge institution, due to this institution, the church official needed lots of money to maintain that institution Catholic Church wanted power and more not the passion of teachings of the religion.

Indulgences were a “ticket to heaven”. Indulgences were sold by the Catholic Church. They say that people brought them by the Catholic Church because they wanted god to forgive their sins an not get punished in their afterlife. People were questioned this like the great reformer Martin Luther that made the 95 theses. This also a contradiction to the bible and it was a sneaking way to get fast money and they toke advantage of their power.

The Catholic Church was a it’s own destroyer and had it own internal declined like the Roman Empire. They were through the Great Schism, doubts of the nobles, sneaking way to gain money, and most of all taking advantage of their great power. This power ended and it just goes to show no good deed goes unpunished.
